2019 Season Preview

The Mariners are coming off a 2018 season in which they captured their first District Team Title in 47 years and a tie for 2nd place in the rough A-South Division. With much of last year's team back, and a strong group of newcomers joining the lineup, North is looking towards big things in 2019.

The lower portion of the lineup looks to be very strong. Junior Ryan Rosenthal (31-9) and senior Nick Reilly (27-8) are returning District Champions, while junior Mark Fedeli (17-16) qualified for the Regions with a 3rd place finish in the District. Also back for North is Alex Danelson, who had an impressive rookie year with 19 wins. They are joined by some strong newcomers in freshmen Jake Rosenthal and Cole Anderson, along with senior Louis Gagliardo, who returns to Toms River after placing at States three times in the state of Florida.

The middle stretch of 138-160 will be sandwiched by junior Nick Boggiano (35-9 / 1st D28, 3rd R7), a 2-time State Qualifier, and fellow junior Matt Spalletta (16-16). There's a lot of depth in this are for North, which will give head coach Bill Wilbert the ability to make some matchup maneuvers.

There's also strength up top for North, with senior Jack Oleske (22-14 / 2nd D28) and junior Mike Nakano (26-11 / D28), who both finished 2nd in the District. Also back for the TRN is John O'Donnell (18-13), who is coming off a solid freshman season in the upperweights. This is a trio capable of having big years, and gives North a strong foundation to break a few new faces in around.

The potential is here for another big year for North. There is proven talent up and down the lineup, and some very promising newcomers, creating a strong, balanced, lineup that should have good depth. It's a fairly young team, too, meaning things look good now, and for the future, as well. For now though, North has the type of depth and talent needed as they take aim at contending for top spots in the Division, District, and Sectional races. A definite team to watch in 2019.
